Open to all ages and skill levels, meet us in the Welcome Pavilion on Wednesday, April 24th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM for an afternoon art making session with State Park Volunteer Xochitl!

With free art supplies provided by the park, Art in the Park is a free community engagement program held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month.

This Earth Day, LA State Historic Park celebrates

This Earth Day, LA State Historic Park celebrates 7 years since our grand opening on April 22, 2017. The genesis this 32-Acre park in downtown Los Angeles is the Chinatown Yard Alliance, a community coalition that fought for a public park and open space, rather than an industrial complex of warehouses, to occupy this space. Extensive community planning followed, with the formation of the Cornfield Advisory Committee, to ensure the needs, wants, and vision of local stakeholders was reflected in the park vision and design. Let’s all remember this tremendous community effort and thank those who fought to make this park a reality!

Sweet Land: Making of a Myth
Join us Saturday! If you missed Sweet Land during its short run, enjoy some highlights this weekend. Presented by LA State Historic Park, The Industry and LA River State Park Partners.

Featuring a special performance from vocal artist, Chohi Kim

Los Angeles State Historic Park and The Industry welcome you to join us for a free screening of the KCET Artbound Documentary, Sweet Land: The Making of a Myth and a panel discussion with community members and The Industry’s Co-Artistic Director, Yuval Sharon. We will revisit the wonder of Sweet Land at Los Angeles State Historic Park, a production and place at the intersection of art, history and inspiration.

After years of preparation, the operatic imaginings of Sweet Land materialized on the landscape at Los Angeles State Historic Park only to vanish prematurely with the arrival of COVID-19 in the late winter of 2020. Sweet Land: Making of a Myth chronicles the team’s creative process and how they recast the origin story of the United States through the eyes of Indigenous Americans and immigrants.

The Industry is an experimental company that expands the operatic form valuing experimentation, collaboration and boldness. Los Angeles State Historic Park is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Of the space, Historian Leonard Pitt declared “No other 32 acres holds as much opportunity to enlighten us about the history and culture of Los Angeles and this region...”

“Sweet Land: The Making of a Myth”– originally premiered Wed., Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. on KCET / Fri., Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. PT on PBS SoCa
The making of The Industry’s groundbreaking site-specific opera Sweet Land, named Best Opera of 2020 by the Music Critics Association of North America. An eye-opening pageant that disrupts the dominant narrative of American identity, Sweet Land was a highly collaborative creation produced by The Industry, the Los Angeles-based experimental company founded by MacArthur Fellow Yuval Sharon. Sweet Land took place February 29 - March 8, 2020 before being forced to shut down due to COVID-19. Directed by Jonathan Stein. Produced by The Industry.
